Answers to common questions about BoopThere. Still stuck? Email us.
BoopThere detects when you arrive at a saved place using iOS geofencing. Geofences run in the background — if the app is closed or in the background, iOS still notifies it when you cross a region boundary.
“While Using” permission doesn’t work because the app isn’t open when you arrive. That’s the whole point. To change this: Settings → BoopThere → Location → Always.
A few things can prevent arrival detection:
1. Location is set to “While Using” — go to Settings → BoopThere → Location → Always.
2. Low Power Mode is on — iOS suspends background location in Low Power Mode. This is an iOS limitation we can’t work around.
3. Too many geofences — iOS limits apps to 20 active geofences. If you have more than 20 places, BoopThere rotates which ones are monitored based on your current location. The places nearest to you are always active.
4. You arrived and left very quickly — iOS may not fire a region entry if you pass through a region in under 30 seconds.
No. BoopThere uses iOS geofencing, not continuous GPS tracking. iOS monitors your device’s position relative to the circular regions you’ve set up — it’s much lower power than GPS and doesn’t stream your location to anyone.
BoopThere never stores your GPS coordinates. We only record that an arrival event occurred at a named place and time.
Go to any place in BoopThere → tap the “…” menu → Simulate Arrival. This fires the arrival flow exactly as it would on a real arrival, including the notification and task surfacing. Useful for testing that everything is wired up correctly before your first real trip.
Go to Settings → Household → Invite Member. Enter their email address or share the invite link. They’ll receive a link that opens directly in the BoopThere app.
Once they accept, you’ll both see the same task lists at shared places. Tasks added by any household member appear for everyone in real time.
Not currently. BoopThere is designed around a single primary household. If you need to manage tasks across multiple groups (e.g. your family and a roommate situation), we’d love to hear about your use case — email us.
Removing a member revokes their access to your shared task lists immediately. Tasks they added remain visible to the rest of the household. Their personal data is not deleted — only their connection to your household is removed.
Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account, all your tasks, all your saved places, and your arrival history. Household members’ data is not affected.
Deletion is immediate and irreversible. All data is purged from our servers within 30 days.
Each account is tied to one sign-in method (either Apple or Google). If you want to switch, you’ll need to delete your current account and create a new one with the other method. Contact [email protected] if you need help migrating your data.
Go to Settings → Import → Apple Reminders. BoopThere will ask for Reminders permission, then show your existing lists. Select a list and choose a place to attach it to. BoopThere imports the items as tasks at that place.
BoopThere reads your reminders but never modifies or deletes them. The import is a one-time copy — future changes to your Reminders won’t sync automatically.
Long-press your iPhone home screen → tap + in the top left → search for “BoopThere” → choose a size and tap “Add Widget”.
The widget shows tasks for your nearest places, updated automatically. It uses the App Group shared container, so it works even if you haven’t opened BoopThere recently.
Open BoopThere once — the widget refreshes whenever you open the app or receive an arrival notification. WidgetKit schedules automatic updates roughly every 15–30 minutes, but iOS controls the exact timing based on battery and usage patterns.
